These terms of use (the “Terms”) govern access to and use of the Frigd mobile app, published by SmartZonesIndicators (the “Publisher”), as well as of this website.
Using the app implies full and unreserved acceptance of these Terms. If you do not accept them, it is up to you not to use the app.
The Publisher may amend the Terms, in particular to reflect a change in the app or in regulation. The new version is published on this page with its date; in case of a substantial change, you are informed in the app before it takes effect. If you do not accept it, you may stop using the app and cancel your subscription at any time, free of charge (Terms of Sale, article 7).
Frigd is a mobile app, distributed through Apple's App Store and through Google Play. There is no web application.
It offers:
Frigd is a household organisation aid. It in no way constitutes nutritional, dietary or medical advice, nor a food safety monitoring device. It replaces neither the expiry dates printed on packaging, nor your own judgement as to whether a product is fit to eat.
This article is essential and it is written without ambiguity.
Product recognition relies on artificial intelligence models. It is by nature probabilistic and fallible: the app may identify one product instead of another, get the brand or the variant wrong, count an inaccurate quantity, or simply miss a product that is in front of the camera.
Consequently:
Document reading has the same limits. Whether it is a photographed handwritten shopping list or a photographed till receipt, the app may misread a label, a quantity, a price, a total, a shop or a date, or wrongly match a receipt line to an item on your list.
As with the scan, an editable summary is presented to you before anything is saved, and it is you who confirm it. The prices and totals displayed have no accounting value and are not proof of purchase.
These limits describe the nature of the service. They do not restrict the rights you hold under the law (article 5).
The recipes Frigd proposes come from open sources, in particular Wikibooks and the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Their sources and licences are listed in the app, in Profile (Recipe sources). They are formatted, translated and classified automatically, partly with the help of artificial intelligence tools, then checked by automatic rules. Their photos are generated by artificial intelligence: they illustrate the dish and do not show its exact ingredients. They may therefore contain errors: an ingredient misread, mistranslated or misclassified, an inaccurate quantity or step.
Your household can indicate restrictions: allergens (the fourteen allergens whose labelling is mandatory in the European Union) and excluded foods (for example pork and its derivatives, alcohol or blood). It can also indicate foods to limit (sugar, salt, carbohydrates). Frigd then proposes no recipe whose ingredient list contains a restriction, and ranks lower, among the recipes proposed, those that contain a food to limit. This sorting relies on the names of each recipe's ingredients. Frigd knows neither the brand, nor the composition, nor any traces in the products you buy: a processed product (stock, sauce, ready-made pastry, cured meats, spice blends…) may contain an allergen or an excluded food that the recipe does not name.

The Publisher is liable for its obligations under the conditions laid down by law, in particular the legal guarantee of conformity of digital content and services (articles L. 224-25-12 et seq. of the French Consumer Code), the safety obligation for services and liability for defective products. No provision of these Terms is intended to, or has the effect of, limiting or excluding that liability, in particular in the event of personal injury.

A serious breach of these obligations may result in the suspension or termination of access, without prejudice to any proceedings the Publisher may bring.
Full access to the app requires attaching an Apple or Google identity. You are responsible for the use made of your account.
A household may bring together up to four people, owner included; the scan feature is reserved for two members of the household: the owner and a member the owner designates. The owner may at any time invite someone, with a code valid for 48 hours, or remove a member, which immediately ends that person's access to the household's shared data.
All the elements making up the app and this website — texts, interfaces, illustrations, icons, trademarks, software, source code and databases — are the exclusive property of the Publisher or are licensed to it, and are protected by French law and international conventions.
The user is granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-assignable and non-transferable licence of use, for the duration of their subscription and for their household needs only. Any reproduction, representation, adaptation or exploitation, in whole or in part, is prohibited without prior written authorisation.
Product data from Open Food Facts remains governed by its own licence (Open Database License – ODbL), as recalled in the privacy policy. Likewise, recipes from open sources, and their adaptations, remain governed by their original licence, shown in the app, in Profile (Recipe sources): the prohibition above does not apply to them.
The content you enter yourself — product names, notes, lists — belongs to you. You grant the Publisher only the right to host and display it, strictly for the purposes of operating the service.
Access to Frigd's features requires a subscription, preceded by a free trial. The plans, prices, and terms of payment, renewal and cancellation are set out in the terms of sale, which form an integral part of the contract.
The Publisher endeavours to keep the app accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without being able to guarantee it. Access may be interrupted for maintenance, updates, a technical incident, a provider failure or force majeure.
The app requires an active internet connection: recognition, household synchronisation and inventory saving take place on our servers, and there is no offline mode.
The Publisher may make the app evolve: add, improve or remove a feature. If a change significantly reduces your access to a feature or its use, you are informed in advance and may cancel your subscription free of charge. In the event of permanent discontinuation of the service, subscribers are informed within a reasonable time and current subscriptions stop being renewed.
The processing of personal data is governed by the privacy policy, which forms an integral part of these Terms.
The app and the site may link to external resources, in particular Open Food Facts, the App Store and Google Play. The Publisher exercises no control over these services and disclaims all liability as to their content, their availability and their own terms of use.
The Publisher's liability cannot be engaged in case of force majeure within the meaning of article 1218 of the French Civil Code, in particular natural disaster, fire, strike, epidemic, failure of the electrical or telecommunications network, breakdown of an infrastructure provider or cyberattack.
If a provision of these Terms were declared void or unenforceable, the other provisions would retain their full force and effect.
These Terms are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, an amicable solution will be sought first; failing that, the French courts have jurisdiction. Consumers may use consumer mediation free of charge, under the conditions recalled in the terms of sale.
